We Need You

Dear Friend,

Determination was crucial when a group of OHS alumni and local citizens banded together to save the “old school”. Its fate might have been as an abandoned, boarded-up building or worse, torn down. But this intrepid group had hope and a vision. They rolled up their sleeves and set to work rehabilitating what was once a landmark building by breathing new energy into it and over time, with many volunteer hours, essential community help and fundraisers, it was habitable, usable and ready for the next chapter.

Since our 100th year in 2021, we have now turned the corner to become the bustling and necessary hub for the arts, education and social gatherings in our community. This is in large part due to the support and largess from many of you. Now, our future prosperity and growth also depend on you and the generations following to fill our shoes.

Today we continue to be determined and focused on our mission – to connect, inspire and embrace our diverse community through artistic, educational, social & recreational means to sustain our legacy for future generations.

In September 2021, we celebrated significant improvements accomplished over the last two years that benefit all of our community. Grant funding and your donations made possible a new playground, a LOVE sign and ADA accessibility.

Future plans include additional outdoor improvements to the grounds for recreation, an open-air pavilion to enhance educational and cultural experiences, and completing the home ec cottage makeover. All of these improvements offer a more enriching experience and a place for all Eastern Shore citizens to connect.

Your sustaining membership support is extremely important to us – it helps us fund our operations. Please consider an additional contribution, to help us attain our future goals to serve our community.

HOS is now the place to gather outdoors to play, recreate, watch a movie, picnic with family & friends, enjoy a carnival or ice cream social. Indoors, we are home to artists, artisans, entrepreneurs, organizations, clubs and a museum. We offer art, education, a place to socialize, meet and celebrate together. Where else will you find so much opportunity? Please help us continue to grow and thrive into the future as destination for our residents and visitors to the Eastern Shore.
