Meet the Board
A native of the Eastern Shore, Jordan returned home as a Business teacher at Arcadia High School. He attended Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC, where he obtained his BS in Sports Management and minor in Business Administration. Jordan began his career in banking, working as a Business Banking Specialist at Wells Fargo and a Small Business Consultant with Bank of America in Atlanta.
He began investing in real estate and co-owns Cook’s Carwash and Detail in Onancock. As an Educator, Jordan has coached various sports and founded the ESVA Vipers, a youth sports organization dedicated in developing student-athletes and helping them reach their ultimate potential.
Jan Andrejco was raised in Pennsylvania, and lived in Hampton Roads with her husband, Bob, where they both worked in education. Jan earned her doctorate from Virginia Tech and completed her career as a high school principal.
In 2014 they retired in Onancock, and currently have a beloved rescue dog, Milo. Jan and Bob became Master Naturalists, embracing the natural beauty around them.
Jan stays active at the YMCA, and plays Pickleball and Mahjong. She is passionate about plants, serves as the treasurer of her church, participates on several boards, and dedicates her time to various community events.
Jorge grew up in Venezuela and came to this country in January of 1983, after finishing his graduate studies at Lancaster University in the UK. He worked as Assistant Professor of computer science at SUNY–Binghamton, NY. From there he worked several academic positions culminating with the presidency of a small liberal arts college in upstate NY.
After retiring in 2018, Jorge moved to the Eastern Shore to be closer to family. Since moving back, Jorge has focused on volunteering with worthwhile local organizations such as the Historic Onancock School Community.
Moving here has felt like I have come home. My dad’s family originated here. My wife and I bought our house here in Onancock in 2015 and permanently moved in 2018. I got to pick where we retired to. We came here from Washington County, NY where we had a beef farm for 28 years, both of us working full time. We raised two wonderful sons who are NH state troopers. My wife and I often visited HOS to see artists and to take part in other social events. I felt the positive energy of HOS every time we visited. I even knew family members that had attended school here. I respect the ambition of FOS to preserve this historic space and its push to support a “hub” to the Eastern Shore.
Rick King moved to Onancock in 2017 with his wife Janis (an accomplished sculptor and painter), has been actively involved with art associations, and previously served on the HOS Board. While Rick was still working full time, he volunteered and oversaw the construction of the “LOVE Sign” in front of HOS. He recently retired after 40 years in the home building industry and oversaw the completion of the new playground in 2021. Rick and Janis have four married children with seven grandchildren. Rick is a member of ESVA Historical Society, an active member and golfer at ESYCC and enjoys boating, fishing and wood working.
John studied sculpture and painting at the Dayton Art Institute, received a bachelor’s degree in painting at University of Dayton; a Master’s in psychology from Wright State University; and an interdisciplinary Doctorate from the College of Design, Architecture Art & Planning at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Labadie is a multimedia artist and works in digital, photography, and traditional 2D artists materials. He was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan and regularly serves an artist-in-residence and/or visiting scholar nationally and internationally.
Margie is originally from Philadelphia. She and her husband retired from the Art Department at UNC Pembroke and moved to Onancock in 2021. They have a studio at HOS, Steppingstone Arts, offering their work, jewelry from India, and antiques. Margie earned her MFA (Printmaking) from East Carolina University (2003) and her BA (Art) from Temple University (1982). She has exhibited worldwide, and her career spans the printing and publishing industry, international ecotourism, and university teaching. She lectures internationally on fine art and design and is co-author of Introduction to Digital Art and Design, 3rd Edition, Kendall Hunt, Publisher. Margie has served on several boards, is currently President of Jumbo Arts International, and is the Publisher of the Journal of Creative Arts & Minds.
Sarah Nock, an Eastern Shore native, is an Onancock Town Council member and an ex-officio member of the Friends of Onancock School board. As the daughter of a former teacher at the school (Anne Nock – Math, Science, Latin) and an architectural historian (L. Floyd Nock III), she is passionate about preserving the history among us, in particular at the Historic Onancock School.
Mark Remington is an accomplished educator, school administrator, and Civil War historian with nearly 30 years of experience in higher education and K–12 public and independent schools. A graduate of Shepherd University with a Master’s Degree from Shippensburg University, he has also led initiatives in admissions, alumni relations, fundraising, and student life, securing major grants, and strengthening school communities. Now semi-retired, Mark continues to share his passion for learning as a substitute teacher. He and his wife, Lesley, have two children, and they spend much of their time traveling and restoring their historic Onancock home.
Ruth Chandler Somers is an Eastern Shore “town of Onancock” native. She is a graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta and moved back to the Shore to raise her children. Ruth has a good deal of history with the school. She attended OHS the last two years it was open as a high school, her father attended all 12 years of his lower education here, and her grandmother taught here. She is well vested in the history of OHS and the future of HOS.
Donna has a degree in Fine Arts from Norfolk State University and has worked with organizations such as Executive Director for Southeastern Virginia Arts Association (SEVAA) and the Botanical Gardens Cultural Diversity Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton. She is the founder of Stay Focus Photography Workshop for Youth Gang Prevention and is a Home Rama Interior Designer for Broad Creek Norfolk, VA Second Hand-Savvy House. She received the YWCA South Hampton Roads Women of Distinction Award in the Arts.
In addition to her work as Chief Executive Director for the Eastern Shore Area Agency on Aging, she is an accomplished grant writer, strategic planner and business manager with experience in government funded non-profit organizations. She lives in Accomack County and is a 1975 graduate of Onancock High.
